Willow Sculptures come to Paxton House!

Anna Turnbull is a local artist from Northumberland after graduating with a BA(Hons) Fine Art at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, London in 1988, she returned home to Northumberland to work as a photographic artist and silversmith. In 1994 she trained to teach whilst continuing on her own creative journey.

She started experimenting with the many processes in the making of felt in 2005. And fell in love with its versatility, being able to paint with a varied palette of dyed wools, create something delicate and ephemeral using fine wools and silks, or use more sculptural techniques to form vessels.

In 2008 she was introduced to the many varieties of coloured willows grown locally for basketry and the traditional techniques used to work with them. It excited me and I started using these to create vessels and sculptural forms.

In 2011 Anna set up Biteabout Arts with the intention of creating unique items for sale and delivering a variety of art and craft workshops. This has led to them being shown in the Paxton House grounds for all our visitors to see.

To find out more about Anna and Biteabout Arts please head to her website – www.biteaboutarts.co.uk Anna welcomes both public and private commissions in willow and felt.

Afternoon tea in the Picture Gallery

Afternoon tea at Paxton house is not one you forget too quickly.

Last month we had an afternoon of tea, prosecco and delicious food in our Picture Gallery with the Steinway playing in the background.  The food was a delightful array of miniature meringues, scones with jam and cream, finger sandwiches, quiche and of course the homemade cakes, all made by the Chefs in the tearoom.

The room provides a beautiful ambience with the amazing paintings, beautiful fireplace and the tables decorated to perfection.

After such a wonderful afternoon in September the team here at Paxton decided another one was a must, so afternoon teas at Paxton will be a regular occurrence in our Picture Gallery.  Imagine the roaring fire and the Steinway playing in the background on a cold winters afternoon, check out our events page for the upcoming Afternoon tea.
