the best wedding venue

Just for You

Paxton House combines the elegance of our Palladian house with the natural beauty of our riverside lawns and woodlands.  We can help you create a wedding day or party with a unique character that suits you and your budget from 200 guests to just 30. Whatever you want to celebrate, our historic setting will make it memorable and our dedicated team is on hand to help.  Paxton is equidistant from Edinburgh and Newcastle and only a few miles from the A1 and Berwick-upon-Tweed’s national rail links.

We love coming to Paxton as a family as there is something for everyone. The kids love the playpark and they put on some great events throughout the year. Keep an eye out for their Halloween, Easter and Christmas ones, they are fantastic and real value for money! The gardens are lovely when they are in bloom and the walks are so scenic. The Tearoom sells a wide variety of foods and the cakes and traybakes are especially good. My coffee addicted husband is a big fan of their coffee and cake! Paxton House is definitely a place we will continue to visit in years to come.

The Hyslop Family

After 20 years together, we decided to tie the knot and The Boat House at Paxton turned out to be the perfect location. The setting on our big day was unreal: spectacular views across the River Tweed and the decoration inside was just magical – not to mention being able to use the entire grounds for photos, although we were having so much fun, we didn’t make it past the zip wire.

Ross and Haley

Mel made the whole process relaxed and stress-free, which is exactly how we wanted our wedding to be. We had the most wonderful day; I would thoroughly recommend Paxton House as a wedding venue whether you are looking to hold a larger wedding in the house or a more intimate wedding by the river. However, we think The Boat House is particularly enchanting.

Ross and Haley, May 2021

We will take our memories of this evening back to Canada and tell others!

Visitor review

Loved this site. Spacious pitches. 2 Large shower rooms disabled friendly. Quiet all day and night. Fantastic grounds and the house itself to explore. Grounds free to caravanners but not house tours. Cafe and small putting pitch. Bird hides. Hidden ice house. River Tweed walk to the newly reopened Union Bridge. One end in Scotland the other England. Boat trips from the boat house certain days. Location is great for exploring all parts of Berwick and Northumberland.

Well worth booking onto the house tour to view the fine house, rooms and furniture.

Before I left Grenada, I gave you the best advice I was capable of… Kindness and humanity to the slaves was one of the things I endeavoured to impress most strongly in your mind… They poor things are so dependent upon the white people over there and so much in their power, that wantonly to use that power is the height of cruelty. A manager of a plantation should consider himself as the father of the slaves, and treat them with tenderness. They are human beings as well as ourselves and very capable of distinguishing between what is right and what is wrong…
