Violin & Piano Recital: Roche and Chisholm-Loxley

A dark haired girl in a purple T shirt holds a violin with the bow raised to play. She is smiling slightly into the camera and stands in a dark room

An exciting programme of music for autumn from Helen Roche and Alexander Chisholm-Loxley.

Mozart, Sonata for Violin and Piano in E minor, KV304

Brahms, Sonata for Violin and Piano in G major, Op. 78

Beach, Romance, Op. 23

The only sonata written by Mozart in a minor key, the E minor sonata is a grave and dignified piece regarded as one of his finest works. Brahms ‘Rain Sonata’ brings a sense of the changing seasons while American composer, Amy Beach’s Romance has been hailed for its beauty and grace since it was first performed in 1893.

Free admission with retiring collection.

Helen Roche took up the violin at the age of three, and the viola at seventeen. Having studied at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, where she was An Instrumental and Choral Scholar at Cambridge University,  she specialised in period performance and has work professionally with ensembles including Devon Baroque, Oxford Bach Soloists, Newcastle Baroque, and St. John’s Sinfonia.

Alexander Chisholm-Loxley is a professional pianist, conductor, and composer based in Durham and Weardale. He is the Director of Music of Northern Praeclassica and Crook and Weardale Choral Society, and performs regularly as a pianist and choral director throughout the Northeast.
