FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I visit?

Our full site is open every day between Easter and 31 October. Times vary according to season so please check before you come. This includes entry to the house by guided tour, shop, tearoom, toilets, grounds and gardens. From November to March, our grounds and gardens remain open every day and our Tearoom on selected days with reduced hours. Otherwise, we are open for private bookings or special public event days. Check the website for up-to-date information and to find out What’s On.

Can we bring our dog(s)?

Yes! We love four legged friends of all shapes and sizes and welcome dogs on leads across our site (except for inside the house), we just ask that you keep your pet on a lead at all times and pick up after them. We have a dedicated dog friendly space in our Tearoom with complimentary dog treats.

Do I need to pre book tickets?

Booking ahead is always advisable especially during peak season and for special public event days. Most activities require pre booking but some are drop in – please check our What’s On calendar for full details. Please be aware that on busy days, particularly Easter and the Summer Fayre, we may reach capacity and have to turn away visitors who have not booked in advance.

Do we need to pay for car parking?

No, the cost of your pass includes car parking. The main car park is hardstanding and situated right next to the shop.

Is the site accessible for those with additional needs or disabilities?

The ground floor of the house is accessible via lift for all wheelchair and some mobility scooter users. We have a video tour available of the first floor. Our tearoom, shop and toilets are all on ground level and accessible.

Our walks are woodland paths and can be narrow and uneven in places, large areas of the estate are also wooded and steep, sometimes with steps so this can make access difficult in areas. We would advise using your own discretion but would generally recommend walks and paths close to the house and flower borders.

Do I need to book a table in the Stables Tearoom?

No, tables are allocated on a first come first served basis. Reservations are only required for afternoon teas (at least 24 hours notice) please email tearoom@paxtonhouse.com. The tearoom serves light lunches and sweet treats. Ice creams are available in the Shop.

What organisations are you affiliated with?

Members of Historic Houses have free access to the house, grounds and gardens, Art Fund members have free access to house, grounds and gardens and Royal Horticultural Society members have free access to the grounds on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays (member 1 only for joint membership). Please show your membership card when you arrive and pre-book a house tour by selecting the correct organisation on the booking page.

Can I bring a picnic?

Yes! We welcome you to enjoy our grounds and gardens and have picnic benches across the grounds for your use. Please use the bins provided. Alternatively, our Tearoom menu is available as takeaway too.
