Beethoven’s high intensity ‘Serioso’ quartet is a seething, melancholic work that eventually gives way to a wild exuberance, and it is a stark contrast to the ‘Hoffmeister’, named after the publisher who specifically asked Mozart to write a ‘popular’ piece that could be sold at great profit. The talented Consone Quartet are Music at Paxton’s artists in residence for 2024.
