How to Record Ancient & Veteran Trees

Join us  for a 1-day workshop on recording ancient and veteran trees. The morning session will be classroom-based and will look at the life-cycle of trees, the Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Inventory, and how to record an old tree for the inventory. In the afternoon we will take a walk around the Paxton House estate to assess and record trees of different species.

Suitable for: beginners. Ages 16 to adult.

Tutor: Keith Knight. Co-lead verifier for Scotland for the Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Inventory.

What to bring: Suitable outdoor footwear and clothing, waterproofs/ sunscreen and sunhat (as weather dictates), notepad and pen and camera. If you have them, a tree ID book, binoculars and hand lens might come in useful. TWIC will have spare hand lens available. Teas/coffees will be provided but please be prepared to purchase lunch from the Stables Tearoom or bring your own.
