Crossing Borders Exhibition

An eighteenth century landscape painting in the romantic tradition by Alexander NAsmith. The painting shows the river Tweed between its high banks with the Union Chain Bridge in the foreground. The Georgian mansion of Paxton House is in the background. Boatmen gather round a coble rowing boat in the foreground.

Head to the Granary Gallery in Berwick-upon-Tweed,once Paxton House closes in October, for a special exhibition which tells the story of the Home family who built and owned Paxton House for over 250 years, through splendid costume, furniture, paintings and family histories.

Paxton House: Crossing Borders reveals how the history of our magnificent Georgian House and its beautiful setting entwines the people of Berwick and the Borderlands. The exhibition includes items never before on display to the public and is a new opportunity to discover the secrets and stories of our fascinating home, situated in Scotland, but at the same time Berwick’s ‘hidden gem’, just over the border.

Wednesday to Sunday, 9 November to 23 February 2025. Free admission.
