Why support Paxton House?
Paxton House is one of Britain’s finest Palladian houses, set within a designed landscape just in Scotland.
As a registered charity, the Trust receives no core funding and so we rely on support from volunteers, visitors, donations and legacies to keep the house, collections and grounds open for all to enjoy.
Why is Paxton House important?
Paxton House is an exceptional example of 18th-century design and craftsmanship, shaped by leading figures including John, James and Robert Adam, Thomas Chippendale, Robert Reid and William Trotter.
Our collections nationally Recognised collections of furniture by Chippendale and Trotter—two of the most important cabinet makers in England and Scotland. Costume spanning several periods, including an outstanding set of 1740s court dress. The Trust has a significant number of paintings on loan from the National Galleries of Scotland. These are hung in curated themed rooms throughout the main house.
Alongside essential conservation and restoration work, we also deliver education programmes, community engagement and historical research. The wider estate provides an important habitat for local wildlife, adding to its environmental value.
Managed by a board of volunteer Trustees and supported by a small dedicated team, Paxton relies on the commitment of its supporters to continue this work and secure its long-term future.
