Description

Worn by Patrick Home at the court of King Frederick the Great of Prussia. This waistcoat is made of gilt lamé on a dark cream or pale pink ground, with a design of connecting sprigs each with three flowers.

The back and high round neckline are made from yellow silk. Twenty gilt buttonholes and buttons join the centre front. It is skirted from the hip with two pockets and lined with calamanco and cream silk.  Lamé is type of fabric woven or knitted with thin ribbons of metallic fibre. Calamanco is a glossy woollen cloth chequered on one side only.
