Bust Room

George Home, the third owner of Paxton House, inherited wealth and large art collections from his uncle, Patrick Home. George commissioned Robert Reid, King’s Architect in Scotland, in 1810, to design an extension to house the collections formed by Patrick. This extension was connected to the Adam house by the corridor known as the Bust Room, which brings you to the Library and then the Picture Gallery. Reid’s estimate, made out in February 1811, came to £4,879. The structure was completed in 1814 and fitted out with furnishings supplied by William Trotter, Scotland’s most outstanding cabinet-maker.
