Description

This warm wool coat highly embellished with gilt ribbon, lace, and gilt foil and embroidered buttons was worn by Patrick Home at the court of King Frederick the Great of Prussia. The flamboyant red and gold coat demonstrated Patrick’s wealthy status whilst he was part of the inner circle of the court.

The full-length sleeves have deep square cuffs trimmed with three bands of gilt lace and five buttons. The coat is skirted from the hip, falling to just above the knee. It is fully lined with dark pink silk.
