Description

This was the first and last piece of Chippendale furniture seen upon entering and leaving Paxton House, commissioned by Ninian and Penelope Home in 1774-76, just after they purchased their Scottish home with profits from trade and enslaved labour.

The cast bronze and glass hexagonal lantern contains a three branched candle holder.  It is decorated with a sprouting palm leaf finial, scrolls, goat masks, vases, and husk trails.
