Spring at Paxton
Spring time at Paxton
Join us as the house and grounds reopen for our 2025 season- there is something for everyone this spring time!
Gorgeous walks through the woodlands and down to the bottom of our garden- see all the spring time flowers and the estate waking after the long winter.
The house, grounds, shop and tearoom are reopening on the 29th of March and there are lots of changes and surprises in store for our regular visitors.
Our Tearoom is reopening with a new fantastic menu- delicious breakfasts, light lunches and amazing cakes. With a mini revamp and a fresh lick of paint, we are excited to welcome you back to the heart of our Visitor Attraction.
We have many activities and events coming up, including the first in our Home Family Stories Exhibition Series, a delightful and engaging exhibition telling the life story of John Home Robertson’s grandmother, Hannah MacFarlan and her Edwardian life. Our Caribbean Connections, Slavery& Paxton exhibition has been moved to a more accessible and open space. Paxton House Presents: Palimpsest… an exhibition by Grenadian-born, New York-based multimedia artist and filmmaker Billy Gerard Frank. The exhibition (May 3rd – Oct 31st, 2025) is a powerful exploration of history, memory, and the enduring legacies of the
transatlantic slave trade. Frank, who represented Grenada at the 58th and 59th La Biennale di Venezia, brings to Paxton House a
selection of works from his acclaimed 2022 Venice Biennale project, Palimpsest: Tales Spun From Sea and Memories (film installation and
photographic prints). This project delves into the life of Ottobah Cugoano, an 18th-century abolitionist and author who visited Paxton
House with his former master, Alexander Campbell. Curated by Dr. Fiona Salvesen Murrell, the exhibition will also showcase a selection from Frank’s Indigo: Entanglements series, alongside new works, all of which are closely related to Paxton’s connections with enslaved African people brought to Grenada, and then to Scotland (and Paxton House).
