‘Chippendale: Master of Style’ – examining Chippendale’s contribution to the Rococo, Gothic, Chinese and Neo Classicism Styles. Lecture by James Lomax, Hon/ Curator of the Chippendale Society.
Two types of tickets are available:
1- Pre-lecture specialist tour of Paxton House and 2 course lunch. The tour will commence at 10.30am and will include a tour of the whole house and Chippendale exhibition with in depth detail about our outstanding nationally significant Recognised Chippendale and Trotter furniture Collections. Lunch will be a delicious 2 course meal with tea or coffee. Then the lecture by James Lomax at 2pm.
2 – Lecture only by James Lomax at 2pm.
Paxton House will be holding an exhibition from the 5th June to the 28th August in celebration for Chippendale 300, ‘The Paxton Style: Neat & Substantially Good’ displaying the key collection pieces of Chippendale furniture along with outstanding and rarely seen pieces that are on loan from private and public collections. This exhibition defines the Paxton Style: a significant, and under-explored, element of the master cabinetmaker’s late oeuvre. The exhibition will be free to attend and will be open daily from 11am-3pm.
