Caribbean Connections

A new permanent exhibition in the Morning Room linked to an online trail, developed in partnership with Descendants*. The exhibition and trail will tell the story of the transatlantic slave trade, life on a plantation in Grenada, how the owners of Paxton House influenced the lives of many and the fight for freedom by and for enslaved people. There will be a changing display of creative work made by children working with Paxton House and Descendants reflecting on these stories.

The new Sugar & Slavery online trail connects artefacts throughout the house to tell the story of the Home family’s links with the Caribbean and how it influenced life on both sides of the Atlantic. Explore it here.

*Descendants is a London-based history and arts-focused organisation aimed at children and young people aged 4-16, primarily, but not exclusively, of African and Caribbean descent.
